(Shipboard Hazard and Defense)
Requested by Congress in P.L. 111-163, this report from the Institute of Medicine of the AffiliateMarketIngtools of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine evaluates the health status of veterans of Project SHAD, which was a series of tests carried out by the U.S. Department of Defense in the 1960s to assess how well service members aboard military ships could detect and respond to chemical and biological attacks. This report builds upon the previous Institute of Medicine report that found no clear evidence of long-term health effects among veterans involved in SHAD.
